John Cunningham and son - BANGOR CHIMNEY SWEEP - Tel. 028 9145 9615
John Cunningham worked as a motor mechanic from leaving school in 1977 up to 1993 when he started 'BANGOR CHIMNEY SWEEP'
He trained in 1993 with the then chairman of the Northern Ireland Association of Chimney Sweeps and although this helps get started, the real training begins when out working every day as a Chimney Sweep.
John is very proud to be in his 25th year Chimney Sweeping and since son James became a partner in the business in 2009 they have gone from strength to strength.
Before John became a sweep, he found it frustrating that when trying to book a sweep they always seemed to be busy doing something else!
So, from the outset he decided to focus all attention to sweeping only.
This he has managed to do this most of the year and definitely in the 'heating season' traditionally September to March.
John is married to Penny who is the true backbone of 'BANGOR CHIMNEY SWEEP' taking almost all bookings and sorting each sweeps daily run for them.
They have five children, James the Sweep is the second youngest.
John has always been a keen biker and although he never raced bikes himself, in recent years he has been supporting son James with his racing hobby.
Highlights for him, was James winning the IMF 2003 Summer Minimoto Championship and the late John Surtess patting him on the head at Nutts Corner for racing round on slick tyres in the wet!
Also leading the 2013 Irish Supersport 600 cup class for most of the year and due to a couple of late crashes didn't win it but come 3rd in Irish and 2nd in Ulster Championships.
